Sutures are classified as absorbable (polyglycolic acid, chromic gut, Vicryl) or non-absorbable (nylon, polypropylene, silk). Absorbable sutures are used for internal tissues; non-absorbable for skin closure or situations requiring permanent strength. Size ranges from 0 (heavy) to 11-0 (ophthalmic/micro).
What AAMI level should surgical gowns be?
AAMI Level 1 is for minimal risk procedures; Level 2 for low risk with some fluid exposure; Level 3 for moderate risk with splash potential; Level 4 for high risk with prolonged fluid exposure. Most surgical procedures require Level 3 or Level 4 gowns.
