Where biosimilars have achieved meaningful market penetration, the price competition effect has been substantial — several therapeutic categories have seen significant list price reductions for both the biosimilar and, notably, the original reference product as manufacturers respond competitively once genuine biosimilar competition enters the market. This dynamic mirrors, though at a smaller relative scale, the dramatic price effects generic competition has historically produced for small-molecule drugs.
